This is how the city of Nawab’s could look in the future. While the capital city of Uttar Pradesh is well known for its rich cultural heritage, Lucknow may well be known for being a city where the roads are colour coded.
Yes you read it right. In order to give the city a major face-lift, officials from the forest departments have decided to plant flowering trees that will help beautify and identify different roads across the city. The decision to plant such trees will not only turn the city into a picturesque destination but it will also help people to identify one road from the other.
S.C. Yadav, the divisional forest officer was recently quoted saying to a media house that flowering trees with distinct colours will be planted across several important roads in Lucknow including ones in the recently developed Gomti Nagar. He also when on to add how several localities that are deprived of green spaces due to rapid urbanization will now be dotted with colour thanks to these blooming trees.
The project has already begun and lanes across Gomti Nagar have already been planted by Tabebuia rosea trees that has pink flowers. While Shaheed Path will have yellow flowers by Tabebuia argentea tree, dividers along the road linking Fun Republic and Lohia Path will be Tabebuia rosea trees.
Trees like Pakar, Eucalyptus, Peepal and Teak that were planted along the lanes are now being replaced by flowered trees that not only help purify the environment but also draw less water thus conserving the water table.
With a number of trees now beautifying the city, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see potential home buyers thronging to localities that breathe fresh air. So the next time you head to Lucknow, you wouldn’t have to stop and ask for directions, you can just identify roads and lanes by their colour!
