T Nagar, a one-stop shopping destination is considered to be the retail hub of Chennai. This is the first planned locality in Chennai. T Nagar also known as Thyagaraya Nagar, is named after Sir Pitti Thyagaraya Chetty who is considered to be the father of Justice Party. Soon after the Justice Party came to power in 1923, the government of the Madras Presidency started developing the modern town of T Nagar with facilities like housing area, parks, schools, hospitals, temples and shops.
