Created as a BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) Layout in the 1980s, Indiranagar or Indira Nagar was named after the country’s former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Divided into two stages, 1st and 2nd stage, the locality is essentially a residential hub. After the IT sector made its presence felt in Bangalore, Indira Nagar developed into a commercial hub in the 1990s.
The locality is surrounded by established localities like Ulsoor in the west, Domlur in the south, Vimanapura in the east and Byappanahalli in the north. Situated in the heart of the city, Indira Nagar enjoys great connectivity through the Old Madras Road and the Namma Metro. Private auto rickshaws and BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses also add to the locality’s connectivity. The closest CBD (Central Business District) to this area is MG Road which is 5 km away from here. Considered to be one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Bangalore, the locality is home to many politicians, sports personalities and celebrities. The residents here do not have to worry about basic civic amenities as there is abundant water and electricity supply here. A number of commercial spaces have been developed across the 100 feet and CMH Road. Being a noted residential hub, the capital value of properties here have appreciated by over 44% in the past two years. Due to limited supply and high demand in the past ten quarters the capital values of residential plots here have appreciated by over 40%. With increasing land value, the number of apartments being constructed here is increasing every year. BDA has proposed the development of a shopping mall in Indiranagar and this will be constructed at a cost of about INR 350 crore.
