In this age of technological advancements, everyone wants instant results at the click of a button. Gone are the days when we would have to accomplish any of the chores like paying bills, buying groceries, banking activities and the like by physically reaching these areas to fulfill the needs. Now almost everything is online. As one wag put it, earlier you had to go to the product, now the product comes to you.
Smart homes are an extension of this technological advancement. So what is a smart home or building? It is a place that uses advance automation systems to provide the user with gadgets that help to monitor and control the various functions in the premises, remotely. For example, sitting in your office or any other place, you are able to view the happenings in your home and can issue commands to make changes as you require using the internet, on your laptop or smart phone, like access control, lighting and temperature control, security and many other functions.
In smart homes, the homeowner is able to get intelligent response to commands like getting information on the contents of the refrigerator so that he or she is able to get certain items replenished if they are getting exhausted. For instance, milk or butter stored in the fridge is almost over and needs to be replenished or the lights need to be put on before you arrive home. This can be commanded remotely. Based on the software programme even mundane chores like watering your plants, drawing the curtains, if too much sunlight is filtering in through the windows, can be attended to without you being physically present.
How does one find the right technology for the smart home
There are many service providers in this field and one, therefore, gets into a quandary to find the right provider. This being an expensive affair, one needs to do a proper research to find the one that suits you. The first thing to do is to get on to the internet and search for companies that provide this service. Next, check online testimonials and get references from actual users. After you shortlist the companies, convey your requirements and negotiate the price. Finally, get proper guarantee documented.
What are the benefits of a smart home
Convenience and efficiency are the products of a smart home. A lot of work gets done in a smart home without you being physically present and therefore frees a lot of time and effort for you to devote to other important jobs you may have, personal or official.
Have you had situations where you have doubts that you have not switched off the stove or oven, left the fridge door or the kitchen taps open? Are your kids home on time and what are they up to. Is the maid doing the jobs assigned to her? Well, you won’t have these doubts if you have a smart home. Now imagine it is a hot day and you would like your home to be cool as you enter. No worries here; you can set the air conditioners working remotely from anywhere before you arrive home. Not only that, you can switch on the lights, open or close windows, check the contents of your refrigerator or your wine cabinet etc. You can even set the ambient temperature for your bath tub. The smart home technology is only limited by your imagination and you get live updates through your smart phone or tablet.
This technology is particularly useful for the elderly and those who are physically challenged and living alone. It reminds people the time for medication and also, if programmed, asks for assistance in case of an accident or emergency situation by notifying the doctor or the hospital.
The difference between a smart home and other homes is that it is a single device that lets you connect and control the many appliances in your home. These respond to your commands remotely.
